Internationally acclaimed jewellery designer, Fei Liu is delighted to have won this year’s Lonmin Design Innovation award.
Liu first won the award, which recognises outstanding design in platinum, back in 2009 with his Aeon earrings (pictured above) and Allure ring (pictured below).

“It is a great honour to have won the award again this year, especially as there are so many wonderful entries. I love to work in platinum and I feel it is important that we continuously push the boundaries of the materials available to us,” says Fei Liu.
Liu’s entry for this year, which will be unveiled later this summer, also features Chinese antiques and is a perfect example of Liu’s ability to blend Eastern heritage with Western influences into elegant and dramatic designs.

The winning entry features antique Chinese hairpins inlaid with iridescent blue Kingfisher bird feathers, which were painstakingly cut and glued into gilt silver.
“The chance to rework a piece of Chinese history into a contemporary setting is what inspired my designs. Working with antiques is a challenge and a joy, as I am able to take tradition and combine it with technology. By using antiques as the heart of the design, I am able to revive its life and create something which is born from two eras,” Fei Liu.
Fei Liu jewellery is stocked all over the World including in Harrods, Harvey Nicholls and Liberty in London, and Shin Kong Place (known as the Harrods of Beijing).
