Jewellery Quarter-based designer Fei Liu has joined forces with mining company Rio Tinto to create a range of affordable, fashion-led diamond jewellery, made using diamonds from the Argyle mine in Australia.

The collection of earring, necklace and bracelet designs aims to make diamond jewellery more accessible and attractive to fashion-savvy shoppers. The range will be targeted initially at the Chinese market, and will be launched at an event in Shanghai this month, followed by a launch in the UK in early 2014.

The Fei Liu for Rio Tinto collection features tiny, diamond-set fuchsia flowers draped across delicate frames of 18ct white gold. They are set with small brilliant diamonds from the Argyle mine, which is owned by Rio Tinto.

According to Fei Liu, the emphasis of the collection is the designer aspect of fine jewellery. He is one of five designers that have been specially selected for their innovation and creativity and invited to collaborate with Rio Tinto on this design project. The others are Chinese designers Huang Chao Yan, Aya Kamimura, Wen Wei Tong and Zhong Hua.
